Publisher Activision has recently released it’s earning results, and in it is proof that Modern Warfare 2 is already setting records.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold 14 million copies worldwide in a year and a half. Now, analysts are predicting that the game could sell that many in 2 months. Now the time frame is shortening. Modern Warfare 2 has already smashed Activision’s pre-order records, beating every other game… and it’s only August. That’s every Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty, beaten, and with 3 months before release, it looks like the records will keep coming.
If you’re looking to grab yourself the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition on November 10th then you’ll need hurry. The UK’s exclusive sellers of Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition, HMV, have announced via their website that they have sold out of the Xbox 360 limited edition version of the game. Many disgruntled fans, who are still hoping to get their hands on the game, have resorted to spamming the sites review section with questions such as “When will you be getting more..?” and “I need this game” in a bid to express their disappointment.
Things aren’t looking much better over in the United States either, with major US retailer GameStop reporting Prestige Edition shortages in many of its nationwide stores. This news comes just days after Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert ‘402’ Bowling, posted on the IW Forums commenting on the huge demand for Modern Warfare 2. He commented on GameStop asking Infinity Ward to “produce more” copies “due to demand”. However, Infinity Ward bluntly refused, adding that the Prestige Edition will actually be limited, unlike the “Halo 3 Legendary Edition”, with each box having its own unique number.
