Robert Bowling Opens Game Studio

After abruptly leaving developer Infinity Ward in late March, former Call of Duty creative strategist Robert Bowling is opening a game development studio called Robotoki.

Speaking to Game Informer through e-mail today, Bowling said the decision to form his own company began immediately after resigning from his long-time position with Activision.

“Robotoki is focused on being a developer development studio that just happens to make games,” he said. “We are focused on our team first and everything else second, because I believe as an industry; we have a lot to learn on how to treat talent. While we continue to out stride film and music entertainment in other areas, we are falling severely behind in how to properly inspire and support our creative talent.

Bowling said Robotoki is completely self-funded and will only partner with those who support that model. “I wanted to create an environment where the creative vision holders held complete control over their work and could guide and maintain it from concept to execution. This is why I chose to completely self-fund Robotoki and have chosen to only work with partners who were supportive of that model.”

Robotoki’s first project, which will be revealed later this year, is slated for release on next-gen consoles, PC, and mobile devices (iOS, Tablet, Android). “As a developer, our focus is on creating a universe first, experiences second, and game mechanics last, “ Bowling said. “With focus being on universe, we aim to create experiences that transcend platforms and genres and allow our players to connect to our world, their characters, and gameplay via any medium (console, PC, or mobile).

“However, how they experience the world is unique to their device. The mobile / tablet experience should not mimic the console or PC experience, it should be additive to it, not supplemental. Allowing them to support their console and PC experience, continue their progression, but by experiencing the world in a meaningful and unique way.”

Bowling added, “Our focus is creating an experience that is no longer strictly single player, strictly co-op, or strictly multiplayer, but adapting the strengths of each of these into a unique experience that is fueled by the actions and contributions in each.”

Robotoki’s website just opened and is already hiring for the upcoming project.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Gameplay 1 Trailer

Check out the first trailer to the next Medal of Honor game, Warfighter. I (mistical) have always been a Medal of Honor fan and that is where both diallo and myself started our competitive and online gaming at, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault or otherwise known as MOHAA back on PC in 2002.

Though Medal of Honor from 2010 was a failure in our opinion; and many others, we will have to wait and see if maybe Warfighter can successfully revive its multiplayer aspect we always enjoyed.

New MW3 Maps Tomorrow Sanctuary & Foundation

There are 2 new maps being released tomorrow for Modern Warfare 3 part of Infinity Ward’s Content Drop and only content drop for April 2012.

These 2 new maps are called Sanctuary and Foundation and from at least these 2 screenshots, look pretty decent enough from a few of their past map releases.

Though I do wonder if and when we will see any classic maps from past Call of Duty titles, especially any Call of Duty 4 maps especially Strike which is still one of my favorite maps.

If they ever released classic maps from previous Call of Duty games, which specific maps/favorites would you want them to release? And would you want them to be free? Because Robert Bowling could have possibly been fired/quit over Activision wanting to charge for them.

Robert Bowling, Call of Duty Creative Strategist, Leaves Activision

Robert Bowling, creative strategist for the Call of Duty franchise and the face of Infinity Ward, announced today that he will be departing from Infinity Ward and Activision.

“Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision,” Bowling wrote in a tweet earlier today.

Since Call of Duty 4, Bowling has more or less been the face of Infinity Ward’s titles, especially after the departure of founders Jason West and Vince Zampella, so his sudden departure comes as a bit of a surprise. Bowling did not offer a reason for his departure, either, so all we can do is guess at why he is moving on.

Shortly after Bowling made the announcement, Activision sent out an official statement on the departure to press outlets, but the statement does not shed on any light as to why Bowling is leaving.

Here is what Activision had to say: “We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities.”

We here at team bRos think that there are a numerous amount of reasons why he would have left, especially because he tweeted the following in reply to someone:

“@deantak It’s the year of change Dean. Big budgets are no longer necessary for amazing gameplay experiences. Time to reconnect to our roots.”

This makes us think that he could have left for any of the following reasons:

  • What the Call of Duty franchise has become, and not so much what it use to be. Especially when it comes to creating the “same” game every year (2 different developers) and milking money from all the paying customers when it comes to map packs and much more.
  • Creative differences.
  • The numerous issues with the game; bugs, glitches, weapon issues, network code and much more. though I doubt he cared much about these.
  • The numerous issues with the Elite service and more especially the website and features such as clan operations taking months (too long) to launch.

Whatever the reasons may be, we at least thank him for his hard work at the times which he did so while at Infinity Ward and for the Call of Duty franchise fans. We wish him the best for his future.

Modern Warfare 3 adds Prestiges 11 through 20

For the first time in Call of Duty history, there are now a total of 20 prestiges to Modern Warfare 3. You can now prestige from 11 through 20. But from what I have heard as of this moment, the highest you can go is 15 and if this happens to be true, I am sure they will unlock the last 5 prestiges on the next map pack drop for Elite members in March 2012. If you do not remember, Black Ops by Treyarch had a total of 15 prestiges.

Take a look at the new prestige symbols for Modern Warfare 3, they are the same except with a different roman numeral above them to show which prestige you are on.
